Tips -> General tips ->Microsorum pteropus sp (narrow leaf) propagation method

Narrow Leaf Fern (Microsorum Pteropus sp) is one of the most versatile aquatic plants that is widely use in aquascaping.

Besides growing through rhizomes – the conventional way, which is usually very slow, there is another very useful and effective way of propagating Narrow Leaf Fern through its leaf. This method is especially useful if you are looking for small (baby) narrow leafs in a faster manner and in bigger quantity.

All you need is some matured/old leafs (which you trim off during the plant maintenance process) and some sinker to hold the leafs in the water.

Arrange the leafs in 1 direction, holding the bottom section of the leafs.

Use any type of sinker (some rocks, leads or woods) to hold/tie the leafs.

after tying, put the bunch of leafs in your aquarium tank (with proper lighting and
nutrient)

In 1-2 months time, you will see baby narrow leafs growing out from underneath the matured leafs. Each matured leafs will produce 3-4 or more baby leafs.

You can “harvest” the baby narrow leafs by simply plucking them out from the matured leaf once they reach the size of about 1inch. If you leave the baby leafs on the matured “mother” leaf, they will drop off automatically once they reach certain size (2-3”).

You can use this baby narrow in your layout and they will grow readily once you attached them to some rock/wood.
Happy trying!!
